Seniors – Volunteering as a senior is a wonderful way to share your life experience, stay active, and help your community. You can easily start by choosing a cause you care about, matching your physical comfort level, and contacting local groups. Steps to Get Started *Assess Your Time: Decide how many hours a week or month you want to give; *Check Your Mobility: Pick an in-person role that fits your physical ability, or look for remote online tasks if staying home is easier; *Reach Out: Call or visit local charity websites to fill out a short volunteer application. corporate/group/FAMILY friendly Opportunities
OPPORTUNITIES:
Host a Donation Drive
Help meet the practical needs of the families we serve by collecting:
- Nonperishable food items to stock our pantry
- Paper products, personal care items and/or cleaning supplies
- Gift cards for holidays, birthdays, or specific needs such as gas, groceries, or household essentials
- Specialty items chosen by your group, such as:
- Valentine’s Cards for kids to give out at school
- Easter outfits, Candy, Easter Baskets
- School supplies and/or backpacks
- New socks and underwear (must be in original packaging)
- 1 st day of school clothes and shoes
- Halloween costumes
- Winter coats
- Christmas stockings for children
- Christmas gifts for single parents
Create Care Packages or Gift Baskets
Bring encouragement and support to families through:
- Children’s Easter baskets or Christmas stockings
- Thanksgiving or Christmas food boxes (SPARC Hope can provide a suggested shopping list)
- Specialty food snack boxes while kids are home for Thanksgiving/Christmas/Summer break)
- Gift card trees for adults and/or children
- Purchase and assemble backpacks & Supplies for our Back to School Drive
Host a Unique Special Event
Create meaningful experiences for the families we serve by:
- Organizing a birthday party for our families (held every other month at our office). Your group provides volunteers, activities, supplies, games, and giveaways. SPARC Hope staff will be available to support and assist.
- Hosting a holiday celebration for our families – we need to do a Christmas Party for our families!
- Sponsor a special outing for our families: Louisville Zoo, Theater Performances or Movie, local festival or history site, etc.
- Organizing a fundraiser to benefit SPARC Hope (all fundraising events must be approved and coordinated with our Board of Directors)
Support a SPARC Hope Scheduled Event
Volunteer at one of our annual fundraising or community events, such as the Breakfast of Champions, Golf Outing, Gala, and more. All of these events need volunteers in many different roles.
Your group could:
- Serve as the primary volunteer team for an event
- Take ownership of a specific area, such as decorating, setup, cleanup, registration, or hospitality
- Sponsor event food or refreshments
- Provide an auction item for fundraising events; a single large item or service, or put together a package item like a gift basket, trip or gift card tree.
- Provide a venue or underwrite venue expenses
Support Our Facility & Operations
Help us maintain a welcoming and organized environment for our families by:
- Organizing and cleaning our clothing closet, life plan room or office spaces
- Assisting with storage, organization, and efficiency improvements
- Beautifying our landscaping and outdoor spaces
- Donating upgraded office furniture, shelving, lighting, bathroom fixtures, or organizational equipment
Party with a Purpose
Do you like to entertain? How would you like to host your own “Party with a Purpose” to benefit SPARC Hope!? You can collect items for our pantry, and funds to support single parents, sharing a cause that’s important to you with the people that are important to you. This is a fun way to introduce SPARC Hope to your friends, neighbors, family, etc.
A few fun ideas: Brunch, Poolside Party, Wine Tasting, Chili Cook-Off, Holiday Party.
