A Letter from the Executive Director
Well, we just took down all of the Trick or Treat décor, and I’m ready to move on to Christmas. Believe it or not, we are already in full swing in working to support our clients this Christmas. I had to ask them for Christmas wish lists before they even went Trick or Treating. Yet we feel blessed here at Sparc Hope to serve this community. We see firsthand every day the challenges these families face with working, going to school and raising their children in these single-family homes. There are over 24,000 single parent families in our Louisville Community and, on average, 30% of them live at the poverty level.
It is our mission at Sparc Hope to relieve their stress as they pursue a postsecondary education to improve their career prospects and end their dependency on federal assistance. We assist our clients with wrap around services ranging from housing assistance to gas cards, to food pantry, etc. We also assist with budgeting assistance, career path training, house buying seminars, etc. We want to give these families a “hand-up” not a “hand-out”.
We also assist our families with many programs throughout the year. From Valentines to Easter Baskets, Spring Cleaning Baskets, Back to School for kids, Halloween Costumes, Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets and Christmas Gifts. At our Back-to-School event, the kids receive 3 uniforms or outfits, a backpack full of their school supplies, and then they meet us at Shoe Carnival where they get to pick out their own shoes and socks and receive all of their supplies. It is your generosity that allows us to be able to support our families in this way.
Our End of Year Giving Campaign has begun. It takes $16,500 to support a family for one year. We are currently on a waiting list for people to get into our Program. This is the first-time since we opened our doors in 2003. During this season of amazing generosity, won’t you remember SPARC Hope’s families?
