Kentucky Colonels Award SPARC Hope $7,000 Grant to Support Single-Parent Families
Funding will provide transportation and supplemental grocery assistance to single parents pursuing higher education
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — SPARC Hope is proud to announce it has received a $7,000 grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels to provide gas assistance and supplemental grocery cards for single-parent families working toward college degrees.
For the parents served by SPARC Hope, earning a degree often means balancing college coursework with employment, parenting responsibilities and the everyday costs of supporting a family. Expenses as routine as filling a gas tank or purchasing groceries can become significant barriers when household budgets are already stretched thin.
The Kentucky Colonels grant will help SPARC Hope address those barriers by providing direct assistance that helps parents get to class, travel to work, transport their children and keep food on the table while continuing their education.
“At SPARC Hope, we know that earning a degree takes more than determination. It takes support along the way,” said Laura Wingfield, Executive Director of SPARC Hope. “This generous investment from the Kentucky Colonels allows us to meet families in a very practical way. When a parent doesn’t have to choose between putting gas in the car, buying groceries or getting to class, they have one less obstacle standing between them and graduation.”
SPARC Hope works to break the cycle of poverty in single-parent households through higher education and comprehensive wrap-around support. Rather than focusing solely on the classroom, the organization works alongside parents to address the real-life challenges that can make completing a degree difficult.
Transportation and food assistance are an important part of that support.
The $7,000 grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels will directly strengthen SPARC Hope’s ability to provide these resources to local families, helping parents remain focused on their long-term goals while meeting their families’ immediate needs.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Kentucky Colonels for recognizing that sometimes removing what seems like a small barrier can make an enormous difference,” Wingfield added. “Their support is helping single parents keep moving forward toward graduation, greater financial stability and a brighter future for their children.”
